Horst Hrubesch has named the 23 players that will be in the squad for Germany Women’s two World Cup qualification fixtures versus the Czech Republic on April 7th and against Slovenia on April 10th. After being sidelined through injury, Melanie Leupolz and Kristin Demann return to the squad. For the first time in a while, Turid Knaak of SGS Essen joins up with the squad. She last was in the squad at the start of 2017 for a friendly with Canada. Hrubesch stated: “Turid has come on in the past few months and is now playing consistently at a high level. She’s worked hard for this opportunity.” Six players miss out through injury: Tabea Kemme, Carolin Simon, Simone Laudehr, Babett Peter, Hasret Kayikci and Pauline Bremer.
After travelling on Tuesday, four training sessions are scheduled in prior to the game. Hrubesch clarified: “Although we are only able to train with the players for a short period of time due to their hectic schedules at club level, we want to use the short amount of time we have by training intensively. We’ll speak a lot with the players. We want to give the players a fresh bit of impetus and clear their minds so they can put in their best possible performance. I’m convinced that we’ll be successful in our aim of qualifying for the World Cup.”
Until now, Germany have a perfect record against Czech Republic, racking up four wins from four and, likewise, have won all three of their clashes to date with Slovenia. “It’s clear to us that we’re favourites. We believe that ourselves,” highlighted Hrubesch. “We want to win these games and we know how much quality we have in our team. However, we cannot underestimate our opposition.”

Before the game against the Czech Republic kicks off, Lena Goeßling’s achievement of 100 international caps will be celebrated as well as Linda Dallmann’s award of Germany Women’s Player of the Year.
After the two matches with the Czech Republic and Slovenia, Germany Women’s next game is in Canada on June 10th. The final two qualification games are on September 1st and 4th against Iceland and the Faroe Islands respectively.
