Hrubesch announces final squad for U21 EUROs in the Czech Republic

Germany U21 national team coach Horst Hrubesch has called up 20 outfield players and three goalkeepers for the upcoming European Championship in the Czech Republic (17th-30th June). A freshly crowned Champions League winner is in the squad in the form of Marc-André ter Stegen from FC Barcelona, along with two DFB Cup champions, Robin Knoche and Maximilian Arnold from VfL Wolfsburg.

Kevin Volland (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim) is the team captain. Marius Müller (1.FC Kaiserslautern), Loris Karius (FSV Mainz 05), Jeremy Toljan (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim) and Jean Zimmer (1.FC Kaiserslautern) were not included in the final selection, despite being named in the preliminary squad.

"There were no questions concerning the keeper situation and we let Marius Müller know of our plans beforehand. I'm really happy that he was here and showed full commitment in training following the injury to Loris Karius. Jean and Jeremy also contributed to the high level of intensity in training, which helps us a great deal in our preparations. In the end, minor details made the difference. If you have a squad as strong as this one, then the manager will have some tough decisions to make," explained Horst Hrubesch.

The three players will remain with the team in their training camp in Leogang until Wednesday. Marc-André ter Stegen will join the squad on Saturday, 13th June, before the team depart for Prague, where their first group game will take place against Serbia on 17th June.
