Horn: "We're doing well so far"

Question: However, you could have more on the board, right?

Horn: Everyone could see that we were playing to win today. We were clearly the more active team, especially in the second half. I think Mainz managed just a single shot on target throughout the whole game. It's a shame we didn’t record all three points, but we are also satisfied with the draw. Next week in Darmstadt we'll have an opportunity again.

Question: Did you notice anything being different in the run-up to this game, after the things that have happened around the World the past few days?

Horn: Not really. The team prepared for this game like we always do. Nonetheless, the events that have occurred were all in the back of our heads this week. I'm glad that everything went according to plan and that everyone was safe. Football gives people a chance to forget about all these negative things for a short while. That's also why I thought it was important that the games take place. We are happy how everything went today, although we didn’t manage to reward our fans with three points.

1. FC Köln keeper Timo Horn has an impressive record of 17 clean sheets in his 46 Bundesliga appearances. On matchday 13 he again managed to avoid conceding in the 0-0 home draw with FSV Mainz 05 but Horn did not appear satisfied after the match as his side missed out on the win despite creating more chances than Mainz.

The four-time Germany U21 international spoke with DFB.de after the game about his teams' performance, his thoughts after the terror attacks in Paris and he summed up Köln's season so far.

Question: How come you weren't able to follow up the derby victory at Leverkusen with a home win against Mainz?

Timo Horn: Because we didn’t score. We created two or three good chances but didn’t take them. It seemed as if Mainz were willing to settle for a draw at quite an early stage of the match. They were very organised defensively. Every team in the Bundesliga will struggle to find a way through that, except FC Bayern.

Question: How would you rate your teams' performance?

Horn: I think we approached the game well. We had a clear opportunity right after the start but unfortunately failed to score. In the end we have to be satisfied with the draw. We kept a clean sheet again which is good and we'll happily take the point.

Question: Are you disappointed that you weren't able to improve in the standings, or are you satisfied with having recorded 19 points so far this season?

Horn: 19 points at this stage of the campaign is completely fine. We're doing well this term. We got unlucky a few times, but we have also pulled off a few surprises. I'm fully satisfied with 19 points.
