Hoffenheim remain unbeaten, Paderborn continue to surprise

Bundesliga new boys SC Paderborn came from a goal down to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 in the second Sunday fixture on matchday 8. A second-half Alex Meier strike gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead, but Marvin Ducksch equalised for the hosts with a stunning hit just two minutes after coming off the bench. SCP captain Uwe Hünemeier struck from close range to put Paderborn into the lead, before Stefan Kutschke added a third late on to secure a 3-1 victory, which sees them leapfrog Frankfurt into 7th place in the Bundesliga table.

The other Sunday fixture saw Hamburger SV play out a 1-1 draw at home to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. A Pierre-Michel Lasogga strike cancelled out Anthony Modeste’s opener for the visitors, with both goals coming before the break. The result means that Hoffenheim are still unbeaten in this Bundesliga campaign and Hamburg moved one place up the table to 16th place, as they continue their ‘mini-revival’ under Josef Zinnbauer.

It was a fine day for Germany internationals on Saturday. Thomas Müller found the net once and contributed two assists, while Mario Götze scored a brace in FC Bayern München’s 6-0 rout of SV Werder Bremen. Borussia Mönchengladbach climbed to second place in the Bundesliga, following their 3-0 victory away to Hannover 96, in which Max Kruse was on target twice for the Foals. Julian Draxler also scored in FC Schalke 04’s 2-0 home triumph over Hertha Berlin BSC, with World Champion Benedikt Höwedes making his comeback from injury for the Royal Blues. Ilkay Gündogan and Marco Reus also made their return from respective injuries, but were unable to prevent BVB’s 2-1 loss away to 1. FC Köln. Another Germany international in the form of Karim Bellarabi was on the scoresheet for Bayer 04 Leverkusen in their 3-3 draw to VfB Stuttgart.
