Höwedes: "We're not able to play our natural game at the moment"

Hannover 96 1–2 TSG Hoffenheim

Ron-Robert-Zieler: It’s a bitter defeat. We saw a lot of the ball and fought hard. We gave it our all but it wasn’t enough. We played well so it’s obviously annoying to lose. Conceding early is annoying. I have sympathy with the officials, these things happen. We did well to get back into the game having fallen behind and it’s a shame we didn’t manage to pick up a point.

Borussia Dortmund 2–0 Eintracht Frankfurt

Erik Durm: After a tricky opening ten minutes we started to attack well and managed to get out noses in front. Despite being 2-0 up at the break we didn’t think that the game was over yet. We had chances to make it 3-0 after the break. We won’t be getting ahead of ourselves. We want to finish as high up the table as possible and to reach the final of the cup. There are a lot of important games coming.

It was another exciting weekend of action in the Bundesliga. Bayern lifted the title, Borussia Mönchengladbach strengthened their grip on a Champions League spot and Bremen fought back to rescue a point against Paderborn. A number of Germany internationals were involved this weekend and DFB.de has collected quotes from some of them.

Mainz 05 2–0 Schalke 04

Benedikt Höwedes: We lost the game through set pieces. It’s really annoying to concede two silly goals after making such a positive start. We should have gone in front and put at least one of those chances away, no ifs, ands or buts. We lacked direction after going 2-0 down; we were somewhat shocked. We’re not able to play our natural game at the moment. We’re now concerned about our Europa League chances more than ever before. The other sides have an opportunity to close the gap. We have to pick up three points as soon as possible. I can understand the fans’ frustration. Supporting us hasn’t been easy for them lately. They’ve been sensational and aren’t getting a right lot back from us at the moment.

Bayern München 1–0 Hertha BSC

Manuel Neuer: Hertha parked the bus and strung everyone across the edge of their own penalty area, so you need a moment of magic like the one for the goal. I hope we were keeping our powder dry for Tuesday. It’s not easy when you have games every two or three days. We’ve used up a lot of energy and that’s why it might have looked a bit turgid in the first half. At the end of the day the result is ok.

Thomas Müller: It was like we expected. Manuel kept us in it at one point. They defended deeply and didn’t post us too many problems. It was certainly tougher than Tuesday.

Borussia Mönchengladbach 1–0 VfL Wolfsburg

Max Kruse: It’s nice to have won the game. Bayern were obviously going to lift the title, it was just a question of when. I think it would be a bit weird to know you’ve won by watching a game on television, but I doubt they’ll be complaining. They have two more competitions in front of them.
