Höwedes scores on comeback

World Cup winner Benedikt Höwedes marked his first appearance after nearly five months out injured with a goal. The 30-year-old Germany international scored in the 60th minute of Juventus’ 3-0 win against Sampdoria on Sunday. Höwedes’ Die Mannschaft teammate Sami Khedira wrapped up the win in the 75th minute. Khedira’s eight goals this season eclipses his previous best of seven back in 2008/09 with VfB Stuttgart.

With six games remaining, Juve (84) have a six-point cushion ahead of second place SSC Napoli.

Höwedes: "Incredible feeling"

"It’s an incredible feeling to come back with a goal after five months without playing. It’s even better that it came in such an important match," said Höwedes. It was the first time since 1993 that two Germans have scored in a match for Juventus – back then it was Jürgen Kohler and Andreas Möller on the scoresheet for the Old Lady. “Great home win to get closer to the Scudetto," wrote Khedira on Twitter. “Happy to score again and congratulations on your first Juventus goal, Benedikt!”

Höwedes last played on 26th November 2017 in the 3-0 win against FC Crotone – his only other appearance for Juventus until now.
