Hertha win promotion back into Bundesliga

Hertha Berlin will be back in the Bundesliga next season after Sunday's 1-0 win at home to SV Sandhausen confirmed their promotion from the second division at the first attempt. Hertha's 21-year-old forward Pierre-Michel Lasogga scored the second-half winner which put Berlin back in the top flight having lost last season's promotion/relegation playoff to Fortuna Düsseldorf.

With four games left, Hertha are set to win the second division title as they hold a four-point lead and are promoted to the Bundesliga for the sixth time in their history.

"The team put in some hard work, which makes me really proud," said Dutch coach Jos Luhukay, with a crowd of 52,135 at Berlin's Olympic Stadium to see their side's promotion confirmed. "Getting Hertha back into the Bundesliga was my toughest task. We had to form a new team from scratch, but it's been worth it."

The topmatch between MSV Duisburg and 1. FC Köln ends 1-1.
