Hertha to face Brondby or Hibs in Europa League qualifying

Hertha BSC will play the winner of the meeting between Brondby and Hibernian in the Europa League third qualifying round. The draw was made in Nyon earlier on Friday. The capital club will welcome their either Danish or Scottish opponents to the Olympiastadion on 28th July, before Pal Dardai’s team play the away leg on 4th August. Should Berlin progress, they would then enter the play-offs as they aim to reach the Europa League group phase.

Copenhagen-based club Brondby finished the Danish Superliga in fourth place last season, while the second-tier side from Edinburgh secured their qualifying spot courtesy of a Scottish Cup win. The first leg saw Brondby win 1-0 in the capital of Scotland, with the return leg set for 21st July in Denmark’s capital.

FC Schalke 04 and 1. FSV Mainz 05 will enter the Europa League group phase as last season’s fifth- and sixth-placed sides in the Bundesliga respectively. They will discover their opponents on 28th August.
