Hartel replaces Dahoud in the U21s

Mahmoud Dahoud has left the U21 national team lodgings and has returned to his club team, Borussia Dortmund. U21 head coach Stefan Kuntz explained: “Mo cannot attend all of the training sessions with us due to his transfer and his delayed return to club training after the U21 Euros 2017. After talking to Peter Bosz and Michael Zorc, we’ve mutually decided that we should give him the chance to continue playing for BVB in the international break. Of course, we would’ve rather had him with us, but we also have to keep the individual development of our players in mind, which is why we’ve come to this decision.”

Marcel Hartel has been called up as a late replacement from Union Berlin for 21-year-old Dahoud. The U21s are currently in Harsewinkel, Germany preparing for their two home international games. The team are set to play Hungary on 1st September (18:00 CEST) in Paderborn and then start their Euro qualifying campaign against Kosovo in Osnabrück, Germany on 5th September (19:00 CEST).
