Grindel re-elected as DFB president

Reinhard Grindel has been re-elected as DFB president. Grindel received the unanimous vote of the 258 delegates of the DFB’s 42nd ordinary conference. Reinhard Grindel extends his presidency which began when he was elected at the DFB extraordinary conference on 15th April 2016. Grindel is the 12th president in the history of the DFB.

”With the clear outcome of the vote, I see confirmation of the path that we’ve already started to pave. We have transformed the set-up of the DFB over the last few months, we have implemented the advised measures to increase transparency and integrity. We have stuck to our word and took the appropriate actions following the FIFA scandal. We are determined to build on what we’ve already achieved in both amateur and professional football. Over the next few years we will focus on improving the framework and speed up the implementation of our plans for amateur football. In addition, our main future project is the creation of a ‘new DFB’. Also, I will do my upmost to try and ensure that Germany win the bid to host EURO 2024,” said Grindel in his speech.

Koch: “We have made a very good decision”

DFL President Dr. Reinhard Rauball spoke on the decision. He said, “The DFB have put things on the right track. We are ready to address our future tasks together. Over the past few months Grindel has proved that he can fulfill this role whilst taking the interests of the whole of German football into account. The extending of the contract between DFB and DFL until 2023 means stability and planning certainty for all those involved.”

Dr. Rainer Koch, DFB Vice-president also spoke on the matter. He said, “Representatives of amateur football suggested Reinhard Grindel for the position of DFB President almost a year ago. Today we can confirm that we have made a very good decision. The representatives of amateur football are behind Reinhard Grindel and the president will have their full support for his upcoming tasks.”

Grindel was DFB Treasurer from October 2013 until he was elected DFB President. He was also vice-president of the Lower Saxony football association from 2011 to 2014.
