DFB President Reinhard Grindel and General Secretary Dr Friedrich Curtius have congratulated FC Bayern President Uli Hoeneß and Chairman Karl-Heinz Rumenigge on winning the Bundesliga this weekend with five games to spare. The DFB can reveal the full message here:
“The German Football Association and myself personally would like to congratulate board members Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as well as the entire FC Bayern team on sealing a six successive Bundesliga title. This win further confirms Bayern Munich’s prominent place in German football.
Football continues to show us that an ancient wisdom still applies: It is easier to get to the top than it is to stay there. Only FC Bayern have been regularly successful at impressively rising to this challenge. That deserves the upmost respect. It is an impressive achievement to again and again reach this level. It is a tremendous achievement to live up to internal and external expectations and keep your rivals at bay. It is possible many have forgotten the fantastic start to the season experienced by Borussia Dortmund, and the difficulties at the same time in Munich. Bayern were five points behind Dortmund after seven games. It was from then on that FC Bayern showed their quality. The correct decisions were made at the right time.
Rarely is the German Bundesliga title decided with so many games still remaining. That is also some feat by Jupp Heynckes and his group, the whole team and those behind the scenes. We hope that the entire team enjoys this moment as champions.”
