Griezmann fires France into quarters

Hosts France progressed to the European Championship quarter finals after a thrilling 2-1 win against Ireland. Antoine Griezmann was the hero of the hour after his three-minute brace in the second half overturned Ireland’s 1-0 lead. Robby Brady fired Ireland into the lead from the penalty spot after just two minutes – the second-fastest goal in European Championship history.

France will play the winner of Monday’s encounter between England and Iceland in their quarterfinal on Sunday (21:00 CEST) at the Stade de France, with a win setting up a potential semi-final with Germany if Joachim Löw’s side are successful in their quarterfinal on Saturday.

Belgium halt Hungary in their tracks

The Red Devils from Belgium have ended Hungary’s Euro 2016 fairy tale run. Marc Wilmot’s side romped to a 4-0 victory over the Hungarian team – with German coaches Bernd Storck and Andreas Möller at the helm – courtesy of coals from Toby Alderweireld (10’), Michy Batshuayi (78’), Eden Hazard (79’) and Yannick Carrasco (90’ +1).

With eight goals to their name, the Belgian’s are now the tournament’s top scorers. Belgium will now face Wales in the quarterfinal on Friday (21:00 CEST) in Lille.
