Gomez scores twice in derby win

Germany international Mario Gomez was the matchwinner for his Besiktas side in the Istanbul derby against Fenerbahce on Sunday. Besiktas now occupy top spot in the league courtesy of a brace from Gomez in the 3-2 home win.

Gomez put his team 2-0 up with a 25th-minute header, after they had been gifted the lead through an own goal from ex-Wolfsburg player Simon Kjaer. Fenerbahce then proceeded to bring themselves level, benefitting from an own goal of their own from former Werder Bremen defender Dusko Tosic before substitute Robin van Persie grabbed the equaliser. However, there was still time for Mario Gomez to notch the winner with another header.

Gomez was brought off in the 88th minute, whilst former Germany international Andreas Beck played the full 90 minutes.
