Gomez scores twice as Besiktas win

Besiktas picked up another win in the Turkish Süper Lig thanks to two goals from Germany international Mario Gomez. The league leaders (66 points) recorded a 3-2 home win over Bursaspor and increased the gap between themselves and second-placed Fenerbahçe to six points. Their rivals do still have a game in hand though.

Germany striker Gomez put the hosts in front in the 22nd minute but shortly after Bakaye Traore found an equaliser for the visitors. Goals from Alexis, who also missed a penalty, and Gomez gave Besiktas a 3-1 lead, meaning that substitute Miroslav Stoch’s strike in the 71st minute was just a consolation for Bursaspor.

Gomez played the full 90 minutes for the table-toppers and Andreas Beck came on as substitute in the 84th minute. Previously, the nine-time Germany international Beck had played every single minute of all of Besiktas’ matches in the current campaign.
