Gomez bags brace as Bayern drop points to Hoffenheim

Germany international Mario Gomez scored twice in VfL Wolfsburg’s 3-0 victory at SC Freiburg on Bundesliga matchday 10, ending Wolfsburg’s run of eight games without a win. Champions League participants Bayer 04 Leverkusen secured a 3-2 win over SV Darmstadt 98, with Germany international Julian Brandt also getting on the scoresheet.

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim continue to impress as they managed to hold table toppers and defending champions FC Bayern München to a 1-1 draw in Munich. Hamburger SV are still without a win this season, losing 5-2 at home to Borussia Dortmund with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring four goals. FC Ingolstadt are also still waiting for their first win of the season after suffering a 2-0 home defeat to FC Augsburg.

Gomez bags brace, Brandt paves way for Leverkusen

Gomez struck his first goal in Freiburg after 41 minutes with a fine header. After the break the Germany international added a second goal to his tally before Ricardo Rodriguez converted from the spot to give Wolfsburg their second win of the campaign. For Freiburg this loss was the first time they dropped points at home, and to make matters worse they lost Christian Günter to a straight red card late in the game.

Leverkusen carried their Champions League momentum into the game against Darmstadt. Hakan Calhanoglu opened the scoring after 32 minutes. Darmstadt promptly levelled at the start of the second half through Mirko-Antonio Colak. Brandt’s header shortly before the hour mark restored Leverkusen’s lead, before Charles Aranguiz doubled the advantage. Mario Vrancic pulled one back for Darmstadt in the closing stages of the game, but Leverkusen held on to secure a 3-2 win.

Hoffenheim claim a point in Munich

Kerem Demirbay scored a fine opener for Hoffenheim, maintained their unbeaten start to the season. The hosts were level before half-time when Steven Zuber deflected Douglas Costa’s cross into the back of the net. It remained an open contest, but Bayern looked the most likely to score as they pushed for the winner late in the game. Germany internationals Mats Hummels and Thomas Müller both hit the post with efforts late in the game.

HSV got off to a terrible start in their home match with Dortmund, trailing by three goals after just 30 minutes into the game. Aubameyang scored all three and added a fourth shortly after the break. Nicolai Müller scored twice to provide some consolation for HSV, while Ousmane Dembele was also on target for BVB in the second half.

Ingolstadt appeared to be on course for their third point of the season against Augsburg, but Raul Bobadilla and Halil Altintop scored late for the visitors. Ingolstadt’s Tobias Levels was also sent off late on.
