AC Fiorentina have moved up to fourth place in Serie A for three hours at least and that was without a goal from cup hero Mario Gomez. The 3-2 win over relegation candidates Atalanta moves Fiorentina into a Champions League spot.
The Germany international, who was the much-celebrated match winner on Tuesday with his brace in the 2-0 win against AS Roma in the cup quarterfinal, played the full duration against Atlanta but did not get his name on the scoresheet this time out. Davide Zappacoasta gave the hosts the lead but Fiorentina equalised soon after courtesy of José Basanta. There were then goals galore in the last 15 minutes as Fiorentina made it 2-1 through Alessandro Diamanti before Yiadom Boakye netted for Atlanta. Manuel Pasqual struck in the 89th minute to hand Fiorentina and Gomez all three points.
