Götze targets February comeback

World Champion Mario Götze must be patient as he plans his comeback. “I have no more pain, but I still have to wait until February,” says Götze as he sat watching Bayern München’s training camp in Doha. The 23-year-old will return to team training in two or three weeks, which makes a possible return against Hamburg for the resumption of the Bundesliga on 22nd January a tight call.

Götze suffered a muscle tear in his adductor in early October, but has been training on his own in Qatar. “Everything is going to plan,” says Götze, who did not think when he suffered the injury that it would have been so severe. Nevertheless, he has been working hard in Dubai over Christmas, where he was supported by a fitness coach and a physiotherapist. Director of sport Matthias Sammer says that Götze will return in the foreseeable future, but also adds: “We have no room for error here.”
