Götze: "Gladbach is a new game"

There’s nothing stopping FC Bayern Munich in the Champions League at the moment. After a comfortable 7-1 win over AS Roma, World Champion Mario Götze analysed the performance of the German champions in the “eternal city” and looked forward to their upcoming matches.

Question: Mr Götze, how do you assess the spectacular win over AS Roma?

Mario Götze: We wanted to get the three points and we’ve done that. The fact that we won 7-1 makes it a lot nicer. We now have nine points in our group and that’s very respectable.

Question: How surprised are you to get such a big win over AS Roma?

Götze: Sometimes that can happen. Roma are a very good team. We analysed them: they try to play good football and they have a lot of great players in their squad. The fact that we won by such a big margin can sometimes happen in football.

Question: How did you secure such a win?

Götze: We used the space very, very well. We created a lot of scoring chances and took them well. Obviously that played into our hands.

Question: When did you realise that this could be a historic game?

Question: When did you realise that this could be a historic game?

Götze: I think after we went 5-0 in front after 35 or 40 minutes after taking our chances- that was a great feeling. In the first half, we played very, very well.

Question: Did you feel the same as in the World Cup semi-final against Brazil?

Götze: Actually, I didn’t even think about it. We enjoyed ourselves and didn’t know that the result would be that big. We played well. The only thing that we can criticise is the goal that we conceded. We shouldn’t have let one in. But I think that we can be happy overall.

Question: On Sunday you face second place Borussia Mönchengladbach. Following the 6-0 win over Werder Bremen and the 7-1 win over AS Roma, do you think there’s another big win on the cards?

Götze: (he laughs) It’s a new game and it starts 0-0. We have to prepare well for the game and obviously I hope that it goes the same way.

Question: What do you expect from the game in Gladbach?

Götze: It’s still a little while away so it still remains to be seen. We’ll recuperate first. Then we’ll prepare for the game and then have a look from there.

Question: What are your thoughts?

Götze: It’ll be a very, very tough game in every respect. Gladbach are in second for a reason. We’ll have to concentrate once again.
