Goals for early-starter Kruse: Titles with the Wolves, Euros with Germany

Barbells, running sessions, push-ups – these were part of recent images that show there is one person who has already worked on a lot for the coming season. After moving from Borussia Mönchengladbach to VfL Wolfsburg, Max Kruse has already got himself fit for coach Dieter Hecking before the start of fitness training with his new employers. The Germany international brims with motivation and ambition. In an interview with Sport Bild , he said, “I want to show the coach from the outset that I am at a good level and am an immediate option.”

Special training sessions before the season are nothing new for the striker. Even in 2013 and 2014, Kruse worked with a private fitness coach for a week before team training began – and he continued this tradition in 2015, also because he is aware of the competition in the Wolves’ squad. He says, “I also know that Wolfsburg have a team that works and that was very successful last year. So I have to work from the beginning as well, and I will.”

"I want to win titles"

Kruse has big goals for the 2015/16 season, and he hopes that the move to Wolfsburg will open the door for him to win titles. “At the end of the day it’s not about how loved a club is, but what visions it has,” says Kruse. “I want to win titles. Wolfsburg were runners-up in the league and won the DFB Cup. It’s difficult to improve on that in football.”

Kruse’s goal is to win titles – it’s the same for club and country. The 27-year-old missed out on the World Cup in Brazil, so he absolutely wants to be at the Euros in France next year. His decision to choose Wolfsburg instead of going abroad was based on his prospects for the national team.

Kruse doesn’t want to risk anything, with a move to the Premier League for example bringing with it too much uncertainty. “You never know how you’ll get on abroad,” he says. “That’s an important factor. After missing the World Cup, I want to take my chance to go to the Euros. In that sense it’s better to stay somewhere familiar like the Bundesliga instead of trying something new.”
