Goalless between Bayern and Wolfsburg

Bayern München and VfL Wolfsburg played out a goalless draw in the top game of matchday 15 in the Allianz Women’s Bundesliga. Both defences stood firm in what was an exciting game but 0-0 was a fair result. Wolfsburg continue to lead the way in the league and are now on 39 points. Bayern remain their closest rivals for the title on 37 points.

Wolfsburg manager Ralf Kellermann said after the game: “Our aim was to leave Munich as leaders and we’ve succeeded in doing that. The goalless draw is a fair result.” His opposite number Thomas Wörle agreed: “The draw is a fair result and we deserved a point. We wanted to play with passion, to fight and to put them under pressure and we’ve done that for long stretches.”

The closest challengers to the top two both justified their roles as favourites. Turbine Potsdam beat SC Freiburg 6-1, whilst 1. FFC Frankfurt were made to work hard by newly promoted SC Sand but eventually came away with a 2-1 win.

Bayer Leverkusen and TSG Hoffenheim were both also successful on matchday 15. Leverkusen beat bottom of the table Herforder SV 3-0 and Hoffenheim beat Duisburg 4-0. Two sides in the middle of the table, USV Jena and SGS Essen, played out a 1-1 draw. Hosts Jena took the lead through Amber Hearn in the 28th minute but Essen equalised shortly after the break through half time substitute Ina Lehmann (48’).

Frankfurt turn the game on its head

And Sven Kahlert’s side were spirited after the break too. But fourth placed Frankfurt were not beaten yet and grabbed the equaliser through Kerstin Garefrekes (72’). Frankfurt threw everyone forward and proved that they were the favourites as Marith Prießen scored the winner in the 82nd minute as the game finished 2-1.

Bayer Leverkusen took the lead in their game against Herforder SV in just the 3rd minute through Isabelle Linden. Thomas Obliers’ side didn’t double their advantage until the 31st minute as Turid Knaak made it 2-0. Germany international Isabelle Linden rounded off a perfect day as she made it 3-0 in the 54th minute. Leverkusen jump to seventh thanks to their win as they now have 16 points, whilst Herford remain bottom of the table.
