Gladbach goalless again as barren run reaches 374 minutes

Following their 0-0 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday evening, Borussia Mönchengladbach have now gone 374 Bundesliga minutes without scoring. They have fallen even further from European competition qualification places thanks to the disappointing draw on matchday nine.

The five-time German champions sit in mid-table, having failed to score in all of their last four full Bundesliga outings. They now sit three points behind their opponents of the evening, Eintracht Frankfurt, who are in sixth place, level on points with FC Köln. André Schubert’s side were once again without the injured Raffael, while Eintracht were without forward Alexander Meier.

Raffael’s presence was sorely missed for the home side, who struggled to threaten the opposition goal with any kind of convincing opportunities. Niko Kovac’s side were somewhat more threatening, coming close to taking the lead through Bradnimir Hrgota’s effort, but it connected with side-netting.

It was a quiet game, all told. Borussia threatened more in the second half. They were close to going ahead when Omar Mascerelli almost turned the ball into his own net via a low cross, just a few minutes after having nearly given his side the lead at the other end. The best opportunity fell to Oscar Wendt in the 73rd minute, who hit a fierce effort at goal from inside the penalty area, only to be thwarted by Lukas Hradecky’s quick reaction save.
