Germany’s women start their EUROs qualification mission

The Germany women today begin their quest to qualify for the 2017 European Championship in the Netherlands. Silvia Neid’s squad will meet up this afternoon in Leipzig to begin their preparations for their opening qualifying game against Hungary, which takes place on Friday afternoon in Halle an der Saale.

Neid has called up 21 players to her squad, including three who have never been involved in the international set-up before – Sara Doorsoun-Kajeh (SGS Essen), Rebecca Knaak (Bayer 04 Leverkusen) and Kristin Demann (1899 Hoffenheim).

Medical tests before training can begin

The Germany players will undergo compulsory medical tests after their arrival and introductions. After that, they’ll get kitted out by DFB’s supplier adidas and move into their rooms before finally getting out onto the pitch for the first training session this afternoon.

There are five planned training sessions before Friday, and the goal for the game against Hungary is clear. "We want to qualify for the 2017 Championship at the top of our group," declared Neid, who is hoping to see her players show "passion, creativity and motivation in every game".

After Friday’s clash with Hungary in Halle, the team will travel to Zagreb on Sunday afternoon in preparation for their next qualifying game against Croatia on Tuesday evening (18:00 CEST). Silvia Neid and her players are planned to return to Germany on Wednesday.
