Germany's Under-21 miss first win against Ivory Coast

Germany's Under-21 missed their first win at the international tournament in Toulon, when they came to a goalless draw against the Ivory coast on Saturday. France took the lead in the table after beating Japan 5-1.

The teams finishing first and second in the group advance to the semifinals. The final is scheduled for June 9. The tournament serves the German squad as the final tune-up for the European qualifying round this fall.

Allthough the Germans dominated the game against the Africans from the beginning, they had a hard time against the very defensive Ivory coast team. Germany can only advance to the semifinals, if they win their game against hosts France on Monday and the Ivory Coast beat Japan.

Germany lost their first match at the international tournament in Toulon (France) against Japan 1-2 (1-0) on Thursday. After having difficulties in the first minutes of the match Germany looked like the sure winner, when Patrick Ebert scored to give Germany the lead over the Asians in the 22nd minute.

During the second half of the game Dieter Eilts' team lost concentration and gave Japan the opportunity to equalize. Yasuhito Morishima (58', 59') scored twice in one minute to put the Japanese on the winning side. In the dying minutes of the game Germany had some possiblities but did not get lucky.
