Marozsan hits the post

In front of a crowd of 14,591 in the MAPFRE Stadium (home of MLS side Columbus Crew), Germany were the better team in the first half. However, the USA made the most of the chances that came their way and were able to use the conditions to their advantage, With a deft flick-on, USA’s striker, Alex Morgan, found winger Rapinoe to open the scoring. A matter of minutes later, Germany Women’s captain, Dzsenifer Marozan, had Germany’s best chance of the game as her deflected shot cannoned off the post.

After the change of ends, the hosts began to dominate the game, preventing Germany from getting out of their own half. Towards the end, Germany began to regain a foothold on the game but USA focused on defending to get the three points on the board.
