Germany women look to close out SheBelieves Cup with a win against France.

The DFB Frauen will look to leave the Sunshine State in the USA smiling as they face France on Wednesday night in their final match at the #SheBelieves Cup. The Girls are looking to register their first win of 2018 and go into the clash having never lost to their French counterparts.

"We want to win against France. We want to build on everything good we’ve done so far, but we need to cut out the individual errors," said Steffi Jones, who has seen her side lose 1-0 to hosts USA and draw 2-2 with England in their first two tournament matches.

Good memories from the last duel

The last meeting with the 2019 World Cup hosts was last November, when Germany triumphed convincingly 4-0 and rounded out their 2017 by sending a message to the rest of the world: "We are a force to be reckoned with." The Olympic champions are also yet to win at this year’s tournament, but captain Dzsenifer Marozsan is only thinking positively: "We are able to take the lead, but we need to be able to hold it." Germany midfielder Linda Dallmann believes the game will be anything but like November’s rout. "No team in this competition can be counted out, and every team can play to a very high level. We are expecting a tough game and we are looking forward to that."

France with one draw and a loss

The unpredictability of the French team can be traced back to last summer, when current trainer Corinee Diacre took charge. It has been a voyage of discovery ever since. 15 months before the start of the World Cup, the 2019 hosts have recorded a 4-1 loss to England and a 1-1 draw with the USA in the stateside tournament to this point.

The SheBelieves Cup is over however for Babett Peter, who was forced off with injury after half time against USA. An MRI scan on Monday revealed that Peter has ruptured her Achilles, meaning the 29-year-old Wolfsburg defender is now facing 10 to 12 weeks on the sidelines.

The tournament in Orlando has provided Germany with some much needed game time ahead of their World Cup qualification matches against Czech Republic (April 7) and Slovenia (April 10). Jones’ side currently top group five with nine points from their three games.
