Germany Women beat Brazil 3-1 in final EURO warm-up

Germany rounded off their preparation for the upcoming Women's Europea Championship in Holland (16th July - 6. August) in convincing fashion, beating Brazil 3-1 in Sandhausen. Steffi Jones' team were victorious thanks to goals from Linda Dallmann (30'), Hasret Kayikci (66') and Leonie Maier (78'). Ludmila (49') scored Brazil's only goal of the game.

Jones appeared to be happy with her team's performance after the match: "We created an enormous amount of chances and didn't lose our flow are it went to 1-1." Goalkeeper Almuth Schult said, "The team came back really well. We played more like Brazil than the Brazilians."

The Germans laid siege to Barbara's goal right from the first whistle. Playmaker Dzsenifer Marozsán unsuccessfully tried a lob in the second minute before setting up teammate Carolin Simon just two minutes later, but her shot went over the bar. The South Americans created very little and were snuffed out by a physically strong German defence.

Kayikci hits both posts

Marozsán was also involved in the next big chance as her corner was met by the head of Kayikci (7'), but her shot was cleared off the line. Marozsán had a go herself just a minute later, but her shot from the edge of the box went over. Germany kept creating chances: Dallmann's shot was blocked after a quarter of an hour and then the SGS Essen striker's next attempt was saved by Barbara in the 20th minute.

The 5,469 strong crowd thought they were going to see the opening goal in the 22nd minute, but Kayikci's shot rebounded back off the inside of either post before being snaffled by the Brazilian keeper. The ball simply wouldn't go in for the Germans, again when Simon tried her luck from 45 yards (26').

Dallmann breaks the deadlock

Germany were eventually rewarded for their sustained pressure as Svenja Huth's shot, which had rebounded off the both, landed at the feet of Dallmann and the attacker turned it in. Germany continued to press after taking the lead and the next chance fell to Kayikci in the 39th minute, but her shot went over.

The South Americans' first real threat to the German goal came shortly before half-time. Some nice dribbling from Gabi came to nothing, however, before Kayikci's shot missed by centimetres in first half stoppage time.

Brazil equalise out of nothing

Germany made changes for the second half: Anja Mittag, Isabel Kerschowski and Josephine Henning came on, but then Brazil equalised somewhat unexpectedly. After a stray back-pass from Babett Peter, Ludmila rounded the keeper and finished into an empty net. The Germans reacted well, but Marozsán and co. were now being kept at bay by the visitors.

Marozsán's free-kick on the hour mark was tipped onto the post by Barbara. Germany's combination play got better and better, but the next chance fell to Brazil's goalscorer Ludmila, who burst into the penalty box in the 64th minute, winning a corner which almost led to a second Brazilian goal.

Kayikci and Maier secure victory

At the other end, Mittag set up Kayikci for her first international goal. Jones Maier (64') and Sara Doorsoun (68') came on either side of the goal. The substitutions appeared to work as Maier scored Germany's third. The full-back drove into the far corner from the edge of the box.

Even in the closing stages of the match, the Germans didn't let up. Tabea Kemme replaced goalscorer Dallmann in the 83rd minute. The match ended 3-1.
