Germany U20s to face Venezuela, Mexico and Vanuatu at World Cup

The Germany U20 national team have been drawn against Venezuela, Mexico and Vanuatu in Group B ahead of the World Cup in South Korea (20th May – 11th June). The draw was made today, Wednesday morning, in Seoul, which was conducted by the two former Argentina internationals Diego Maradona and Pablo Aimar.

A DFB delegation led by Guido Streichsbier was also there to see the draw in the South Korean capital. “Unfortunately we are playing on the first matchday in Group B, so we will have less time to acclimatise in Korea,” said the U20 coach. “Venezuela may not be one of the big footballing nations but they were really strong in their South American qualifiers. Mexico are always technically very good at youth level and are a team with a lot of tournament experience. Vanuatu are the biggest unknown of the group but a team that we will be going up against seriously and with intensity.”

Germany will first take on Venezuela in Daejeon on 20th May. They will then also be in action in Daejeon against Mexico on 23rd May before their final group game in Jeju against World Cup debutants Vanuatu. Hosts South Korea and Guinea will contest the first match of the tournament on 20th May.
