Germany U17s remain unbeaten after Italy stalemate

Germany have recorded their second draw in as many games at the Women’s European U17 Championship in Belarus. After drawing 2-2 with Spain in their opener, the DFB-Team played out a 0-0 with Italy in Zhodzina on Saturday, meaning they can control their own destiny in Tuesday’s final group game against the Czech Republic.

Anouschka Bernhard’s side dominated large parts of the match in front of 2,500 spectators, but were unable to break the deadlock. The best chance fell to Marie Müller, who could only find the side netting from close range. Germany didn’t allow many chances at the other end, keeping the Italians’ dangerous counterattacking game under wraps. “I’m very happy with our defensive performance,” said Bernhard, although she had hoped for “more precision” in the final third.

A win for Germany in their final group game on Tuesday would see them reach the semi-finals on 13th May, regardless of other results. The Women’s European U17 Championship final will be held at the Borisov Arena on 16th May.
