Germany to have training camp in South Tyrol

For the third time the Germany national team will have their pre-World Cup training camp in South Tyrol, Italy. The DFB team conducted their 1990 and 2010 pre-tournament preparations in Eppan, and the municipality will also be their base ahead of next summer’s showpiece event in Brazil. The team will be staying in the Hotel Andreus in Ort St. Leonhard.

"Our friends from South Tyrol have invited us again and it’s an invitation we will gladly take them up on," said team manager Oliver Bierhoff. "The friendliness and warmth of the people is extraordinary and we've always felt completely at home there. We've always has outstanding training facilities and I'm convinced we will be able to prepare ourselves in the best possible way this time around as well."

The locals are equally excited about welcoming the three-time World Cup winners. "As governor of the province it is an honour, for me especially, that the friends of the German Football Federation are obviously such huge fans of our beautiful country and that they can hold their training camp in Passiertal in South Tyrol ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil," commented Luis Durnwalder.

The DFB travel agency has already provided a hotel in the area for journalists.

The players are due to spend roughly ten days at the training camp in Italy between 19 May and 3 June, and the visit will mark the official beginning of Germany's preparations for the World Cup. Fixed dates for the trip will be released following the completion of the tournament’s group stage draw on 6 December. The start and end dates of the training camp, as well the day on which the team departs Germany for Brazil, may vary, depending on when Joachim Löw's team are drawn to play their first game in Brazil.
