Three-time champion Germany had an easy 8-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in a Group E World Cup match. Miroslav Klose opened the scoring with two identical-looking headers in the 20th and 25th minutes. Michael Ballack added the third goal, off another header, in the 40th minute. Carsten Jancker extended the lead in the first minute of extra time.
In the second period the German team kept the control of the game. Again Klose (69th minute), Thomas Linke (72th minute), both with headers, substitute Oliver Bierhoff (84th minute) and Bernd Schneider (90th minute) increased the lead.
Germany became the first team in 20 years to score eight in a finals match, Hungary having beaten El Salvador 10-1 in 1982 in Spain. It was also Germany's highest World Cup score since a 7-2 win over Turkey in 1954 when they first claimed the title.
Germany top group E with three points, followed by Cameroon und Ireland, both on one point after drawing 1-1 earlier on Saturday.
