Germany slip to third in new FIFA World Rankings

There’s been a change at the top of the FIFA World Rankings – Argentina, with 1425 points, remain in the top position, but it’s bad news for Joachim Löw and Die Mannschaft as they have been replaced by Belgium (1244 to 1226 points) in second place. Chile is also a new entry in the top ten. The reason for Germany’s slip is because the points accrued during their World Cup triumph last year have diminished in value compared to more recent tournaments.

Above all, those countries that took part in this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup have made a lot of good ground. Mexico, who won the competition, jumped up 14 places to 26th in the most recent rankings. Jamaica, led by German manager Winfried Schäfer, moved up a massive 21 places into 55th after their surprisingly good campaign in which they reached the final.

The new ranking is based on the most recent 29 international fixtures. 26 of those took place as part of the Gold Cup, whilst the other three were international friendlies. The next FIFA World Ranking will be published on 3rd September.
