Germany draw 1-1 against Norway

The Germany Women’s team missed the chance to win their second game of the World Cup as they held to a 1-1 draw by Norway. The game took place exactly 683 days after DFB-Team's 1-0 win when the sides met in the 2013 European Championship final. Anja Mittag got Germany off to a flying start, putting her team 1-0 up early in the first half. In the 61st minute, Maren Mjelde curled a free kick into the top corner to level things up, and that's how it stayed.

Following the 10-0 opening win against Cote d’Ivoire, the DFB Women’s team have now racked up four points and are tied with Norway. However, Silvia Neid's team hold a six-goal advantage over their Scandinavian rivals. Monday will see Germany play their final group match and they will be looking to seal the group win in their meeting with Thailand.

Silvia Neid: "I am very happy with the result”

"I am very happy with the result,” said Silvia Neid. “We played very well in the first half and hardly allowed any chances. Norway aren't just any other team. We can be satisfied with the draw. I am happy that we got a point and have a good goal difference. The ball keeps on rolling on Monday.”

Goalscorer Anja Mittag was a bit disappointed. “It’s frustrating that we had so many chances to go 2-0 up in the first half but we didn’t take advantage. In the second half, we couldn’t control the game like we did in the first. As a result, the group is now wide open.
