Germany crash out of U19 Euro

The Germany U19 team missed the chance to reach the semi-finals at the European Championship in Georgia. Frank Kramer’s side lost 4-1 to England and will therefore progress no further in the tournament after finishing third in group B. Ben Brereton’s brace put England two up in the second half before Tobias Warschewski got one back for the Germans. However it was not to be as England did not stop there, with Ryan Sessegnon scoring yet another brace for the Young Lions to give them a 4-1 victory.

The team struggled to find any cohesion in the first 15 minutes and two early substitutions by the Brits due to injury did not help that. Germany were inches away from taking the lead on the half-hour mark but Geiger’s 30-metre bullet clattered off the crossbar. Both teams were convincing at the back but neither side could create that clear-cut opportunity.

However all the momentum in the second half was with England, who scored quickly after the break and putting the DFB team on the back-foot. Despite not letting their spirits go down and pulling one back to make it 2-1, Germany just could not find that equalising goal. It proved costly as England wrapped things up in the last ten minutes to send the Germans out of the competition with just three points.
