In Basel the German Women's National team won their last EURO 2009 qualifier against Switzerland 3-0 (2-0). In her last international cap Sandra Smisek scored the last goal of the game.
Germany have successfully qualified for the EURO tournament in Finland (August, 23rd – September 9th 2009). With eight victories in eight games, the team of national coach Silvia Neid won group 4 with 24 points. Kerstin Garefrekes (20.), Melanie Behringer (33.) and Smisek (76.) scored.
In Basel, coach Silvia Neid had to replace six players. First of all team captain Birgit Prinz left training camp due to a toe injury as well as Bianca Rech due to a pulled adductor muscle. Fatmire Bajramaj, Linda Bresonik, Conny Pohlers and Celia Okoyino da Mbabi also had to withdraw.
Smisek played her 133. and last international match for Germany against Switzerland. The striker announced her retirement from her international career on Monday.
