Now it’s official: The German Football Association and the Turkish Football Association will go head-to-head in the battle to host the 2024 European Championships. The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) confirmed on Wednesday (08/03/17) that they had received two official applications. The deadline for applicants was last Friday (03/03/17) and the president of the German Football Association, Reinhard Grindel, submitted Germany’s documents, in person, on Wednesday 1st March.
"They are definitely two strong applicants and the executive committee will have a tough decision,” said UEFA’s general secretary Theodore Theodoridis, "UEFA is committed to a transparent voting procedure.”
In September 2018, the 17 members of the executive committee will meet with the president of UEFA, Aleksander Ceferin, to decide who will host the tournament. Before then, the two football associations of Germany and Turkey have until 27th April 2018 to submit their full applications with specific details of exactly how they would go about hosting EURO 2024.
