German Women beat England on Thursday

Ahead of the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing, the German Women's National Team beat England in an international friendly 3-0. In Unterhaching Sandra Smisek, Birgit Prinz and Melanie Behringer scored for the world champion. On Wednesday, July 23rd, the German team plays against Norway in Sandefjord in their last test match ahead of the Olympics.

German coach Silvia Neid has to reduce her squad of 25 players to 18 with regard to the Olympics in China where Germany face Brazil in their first match of the preliminary round on August, 6th . Neid announced to do so after the match against England. In 2007 Germany last met Brazil in the World Cup final when beating the South Americans 2-0.

Altogether 16 World champions are still on the interim team for Beijing. Only Silke Rottenberg who retired from her international career, Sandra Minnert who completely retired and Petra Wimbersky (knee injury) and Sonja Fuss (at call) are not part of the squad for the match against England.

Germany and England also met at the World Cup 2007 in China when they tied 0-0. It was the only match at the World Cup when the German team did not score.
