The German Under 21 National Team lost its last Group match of the International tournament in Toulon 1-4 (0-2) against France and failed to reach semifinals. To advance into round of last four the team of Coach Dieter Eilts had to win the match.
In Aubagne Djamel Abdoun (4.) and Xavier Pentecote (30./42./59.) scored for host France, winner of group A. Ashkan Dejagah (79.) marked the only goal for Germany.
In the second match of group A Ivory Coast beat Japan 1-0 (0-0) on Monday and followed France into semifinals.
The German team lost 1-2 to Japan and had a goalless draw against Ivory Coast in the first two Group matches.
