German stadiums take centre stage at Global Sport Forum

The Global Sports Forum 2012 officially opens its doors on 7 March at Palau de Congressos in Barcelona. A host of leading personalities from the international sporting world, including, Lord Sebastian Coe, former footballer Eric Cantona and FC Barcelona president Sandro Rosell, are scheduled to attend the three-day event.

At the summit meeting of global sport in the Catalan metropolis, DFB Consulting & Sales Services CEO Ulrich Wolter will join Shaun Dawson (Lee Valley Regional Park Authority CEO), Marcel Cordes (SPORT+MARKT AG director and executive chairman) and Philippe Auroy (Consortium Stade de France deputy CEO) on 9 March to survey the latest trends in stadium management.

“Twenty German stadiums have hosted matches at FIFA tournaments over the last six years. This impressive figure is convincing proof that a large number of our stadiums meet the highest international standards. Furthermore, other cities which have yet to host matches at a FIFA tournament also boast exceptionally good stadiums. Naturally, we’re looking forward to exchanging views with experts from other countries,” commented Ulrich Wolter.

Frankfurt (FIFA Confederations Cup 2005, 2006 FIFA World Cup™ and FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011); Berlin (2006 FIFA World Cup and FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011); Hannover, Cologne, Leipzig, Nuremberg (FIFA Confederations Cup 2005 and 2006 FIFA World Cup); Dortmund, Kaiserslautern, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart (2006 FIFA World Cup); Augsburg, Bochum, Dresden (FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2010 and FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011); Leverkusen, Mönchengladbach, Sinsheim, Wolfsburg (FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011); and Bielefeld (FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2010) have all hosted FIFA events in recent years.

“Our stadiums are not merely venues for important sports events, they are also secure, comfortable and convenient meeting points for families, friends and business partners,” Wolter continued.

Another highlight of the Global Sports Forum is the award of the Community Trophy for 2012. The DFB’s sustainability initiative at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 is one of eight candidates for the prestigious accolade.
