German-French design competition ahead of Euro 2016

Watching Die Mannschaft at training, meeting the World Cup winners themselves and coming face to face with the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Manuel Neuer - this dream could become reality for youngsters across France and Germany. In co-operation with the German-French youth network, the Goethe institute and the français d’Allemagne, and with the support of the Fédération Française de Football, the DFB-Team have organised a youth competition for the two countries ahead of the 2016 European Championship.

Everyone between the ages of 12 and 20 in France and Germany have been called upon to bring their creativity and their ideas to the table to try and come up with a design for a German-French flag. Be it on their own, in a pair, or in a team with friends. The slogan for the competition is "Football brings nations together - a celebration is the same in every language." A message which after the Paris terror attacks is even more important, meaningful and relevant than ever before. The competition starts today, the 2nd December 2015 and ends on the 1st March 2016. The designs can be uploaded to the competition website as either a drawing or a photograph. On the website, there is also a ‘design your own flag’ generator tool.

The main prize: A visit to Germany’s European Championship training camp in Évian

After the competition, captain Basitan Schweinsteiger and Co. will assess the entries. With Die Mannschaft’s verdict taken into consideration, the final decision will be made by a jury of representatives from several different partner co-operations. The main prize will be a trip to national side’s training camp in Évian-les-Bains by the South coast of Lake Genfer. After meeting the DFB-Team, the winner will have a choice between a number of further activities, including intercultural workshops, German-French language workshops or German-French film night. Also on the itinerary is a visit to one of the press conferences and the team hotel.

Andreas Köpke, the face of the event and Germany’s goalkeeping coach said: "I played football in France for two and a half years. It was important to me to learn as much as I could about the country and its culture. So I’m very pleased to see the cultures being brought together through the competition. Curiosity and interest for others is the basis of any good relationship, France and Germany are good examples of this. I would love to see as many French and German youngsters as possible take part. I can promise that the winner will have a great time in Évian."
