German Chancellor Merkel: "More peaks on the road ahead"

Dr. Angela Merkel, German Chancellor: "These fantastic moments back in the summer 2006, when Germany had the privilege to host the FIFA World Cup, are still on my mind. As so many fans in our country, I look forward to the next exciting tournament, the soon-to-start EURO in Austria and Switzerland. Rooting for our team, I will keep my fingers crossed. Today, Joachim Löw nominated his team during a media conference on top of the Zugspitze, but there will be more peaks on the road ahead. Our team is definetely one of the favourites to win the European Championship. I have high hopes."

Dr. Theo Zwanziger, DFB-President: "Our team has so many coaches all across Germany. But we have only one Bundestrainer, only one man in charge and responsible for the 2008 UEFA EURO. Joachim Löw has invested endless hours preparing for the upcoming challenge. I feel very confident that he has found the right mixture for the team."

Wolfgang Niersbach, DFB General Secretary: "The coaching and support staff have our full support, their effort is highly appreciated. We know that Joachim Löw has prepared with great dilligence for the EURO. I feel confident that we will not have a repeat of Holland 2000 or Portugal 2004."

Uli Hoeneß, manager Bayern Munich: "Joachim Löw and his assistant coaches have nominated a good group. The roster is well-balanced, the team has a great chance for a successful European Championship."

Rudi Völler, Technical Director Bayer Leverkusen: "Making these decisions is never easy. There were some hard choices to make. Making these picks is not a popularity contest. Obviously I’m happy that Simon Rolfes and René Adler made the roster. Adler has earned his nomination because of a very good season in the Bundesliga. I keep my fingers crossed for our team and the coaching staff. We’ll play a good tournament, I feel sure."
