Fürth breathe life into survival hopes

Bundesliga bottom side Greuther Fürth breathed some hope into their survival chances with a 1-0 win at Nuremberg in the Franconia derby on Sunday, their first since February's shock win at Schalke. Defender Johannes Geis hit the first-half winner as Fuerth enjoyed only their third win of the season -- all of which have been away.

With four games left they must still close the nine-point gap to reach 16th place, which carries a promotion/relegation play-off place, but have their work cut out, facing Freiburg, VfB Stuttgart and Hanover 96 in succession.

Stuttgart earlier enjoyed their second home victory over Freiburg inside a week with a 2-1 Bundesliga win, just four days after beating the same opponents by the same margin to reach the German Cup final.

Eintracht Frankfurt are still dreaming of the Champions League. After a 1-0 (1-0) against fourth-placed FC Schalke 04 the promoted team is only one point away from the "Königsblauen". Bayern München (6-1 at Hannover 96) and Bayer Leverkusen (5-0 vs. 1899 Hoffenheim) celebrated clear victories each. Borussia Dortmund beat Mainz 05, former club of coach Jürgen Klopp, 2-0 (1-0).

Borussia Mönchengladbach eyed the international business on Round 30. Due to the 1-0-victory against FC Augsburg the VfL climbed up at the sixth position in the Bundesliga.
