Frontzeck returns as Gladbach’s coach

Borussia Mönchengladbach has hired Michael Frontzeck as their new coach and successor to Hans Meyer. The 45-year old Frontzeck signs a two-year contract until June 2011. He is the 19th coach appearing in the annals of the five-time German champions. As eight other coaches before him, Michael Frontzeck had played for the Borussia as well.

Last Thursday, Hans Meyer, who managed to keep Borussia in the Bundesliga, had asked the Borussia to dissolve the existing contract.

Frontzeck was actually born in Mönchengladbach and had played for the “Fohlen” (foals) during three different phases: 1982-89, in the 1995/96 season and from 1998-2000. For 213 of his total 436 games in the Bundesliga, Frontzeck wore Gladbach’s jersey. His last station as a coach was Arminia Bielefeld, but could not prevent them from dropping to 2. Bundesliga.
