Freiburg and Karlsruher SC record victories

Fortuna Düsseldorf continue to struggle in Germany's second division, having collected just one point from four games after losing at home to relegated side SC Freiburg on Saturday. The other game featured Karlsruher SC recording a 2-0 victory over newly promoted side MSV Duisburg.

Fortuna started brightly against Freiburg, putting a lot of pressure on the side who were in the Bundesliga last season. The visitors struggled with their build-up play and their attacking threat was practically non-existent until Vincenzo Grifo scored the opener in the 33rd minute completely against the run of play.

Düsseldorf recovered quickly however and Mathis Bolly's fine individual effort produced the equaliser just four minutes later. But the Fortuna fans’ celebrations were cut short, as Lucas Höfler restored Freiburg’s lead just two minutes later. Düsseldorf remained in control in the second half but were unable to level the score despite several great chances.

Hoffer and Gulde on target for KSC

Neither side were able to produce clear chances in the first half between Karlsruher SC and MSV Duisburg until the 45th minute, when Erwin Hoffer was on the end of a cross from Manuel Torres to bag the opener just seconds before the break.

The home-side came out with great confidence from the half-time break and looked to add to their lead. Ten minutes after the restart Manuel Gulde tapped home from close range to secure a 2-0 win for the team that finished 3rd last season.
