Franz Beckenbauer elected as a member of the FIFA Executive Comittee

During the XXXI Ordinary Congress of the European Football Federation (UEFA) in Düsseldorf, Franz Beckenbauer was elected as a member of the FIFA Executive Committee by the acclaim of the Congress.

"He is a perfect representative for the German football. We can not imagine a better person at this important position within FIFA. We are internationally well positioned", DFB President Dr. Theo Zwanziger said after the vote.

"I am pleased that it worked out without problems. An exciting task lies ahead of me" said Beckenbauer, who had been voted into his new position without any rival candidate but with much applause.

DFB General Secretary Horst R. Schmidt reacted pleased: "That is the good message of the day for the German football federation. We are pleased that Franz Beckenbauer was elected in such an overwhelming way. As a proven specialist he is the right man at the FIFA Executive Committee. He will represent the common interests of the international football well in the course of the next years - the DFB wish him much success." created by js/tw
