Frankfurt through to semi-finals after penalty shoot-out

In a dramatic second leg of the quarter final, it was Frankfurt who progressed to the semi-final of the women’s Champions League after a penalty shoot-out won 5-4 against Rosengard. The Swedes took the lead in the 28th minute through Sara Bjork Gunnarsdottir, leveling the aggregate scores 1-1. This was the only goal of the 90 minutes and, following a goalless extra time, it went to penalties.

The team from Frankfurt showed no nerves and Simone Laudehr, Laura Störzel, Mandy Islacker, Sophie Schmidt and Marith Priessen scored one after another. Keeper Anne-Kathrine Kremer saved the first Rosengard penalty excellently, which proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Their progression has set up an all-German semi, where Frankfurt will now come up against Wolfsburg, who swept aside Brescia 6-0 on aggregate.
