Frankfurt march into next round

1. FFC Frankfurt comfortably overcame their first obstacle to reach the last 16 of the Champions League. The seven-time German Champions defeated current Kazakhstan title holders BIIK Kasygurt 4-0 in the second leg, after their 2-2 draw in the first leg.

In front of 1,460 spectators at the stadium in Brentanobad, Germany international Dzsenifer Marozsan put FFC on the road to victory after her wonder strike from around 22 yards in the 40th minute. Kerstin Garefrekes made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute after a Marozsan free kick, and a brace from top goal scorer Celia Sasic in the 75th and 93rd minute secured the result for the team full of stars.

Their opponents in the last 16, which will take place on November 8th/9th and 12th/13th, will be ASD Torres Calcio from Italy, who qualified thanks to two wins over Slovenian side ZNK Pomurje (4-2 and 3-1). The final of the Women’s Champions League will be played in Germany, three years after the last final there between 1. FFC Frankfurt and Olympique Lyon, which took place in front of 50,000 spectators at the Olympic Stadium in Munich. The new European Champions will be crowned on 14th May 2015 at the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark in Berlin.
