Frankfurt march into final with 6-0 win over Bröndby

1. FFC Frankfurt are through to the final of the women’s Champions League after dominating their semi-final. After winning the first leg 7-0, last season’s runners-up in Germany beat Danish champions Bröndby IF 6-0 in the second leg to book their ticket at the final in Berlin on 14th May. It now means a German side has reached the final for the eighth season in succession.

In a totally one-sided game, the goals came from Verónica Boquete (7’, 32’, 84’) and Germany international Celia Sasic (14’, 25’, 38’). Frankfurt will find out their opponents on Sunday when German champions VfL Wolfsburg meet French side Paris St. Germain in their second leg. Wolfsburg are under pressure after losing 2-0 in last weekend’s first leg.

Boquete and Sasic score early

Frankfurt were better than Bröndby in every department. Spanish forward Boquete took advantage of some good build-up play from Sasic and Kerstin Garefrekes to fire the German side in front early on. Shortly after, Sasic scored from a corner to make it 2-0 before making it 3-0 just ten minutes later.

Sasic was brilliant in the first leg and scored four goals in that game. But the 26-year-old was just as hard to stop this time round and scored again to make it 5-0 after Boquete had added her second to make it 4-0. Frankfurt took their foot of the gas a little in the second half but never came under threat. But that wasn’t the end of the scoring, as Sasic set up Boquete to make it 6-0.

Colin Bell’s team were particularly pleased to have Saskia Bartusiak back in the side. The 2007 World Champions ruptured her cruciate ligament back in June but has also recently made a return to Silvia Neid’s Germany squad too.

Frankfurt were last in the Champions League final back in 2012 when they lost 2-0 to Olympique Lyon at Munich’s Olympic Stadium.
