Frankfurt let lead slip

Eintracht Frankfurt were unable to record their third Bundesliga win of the season on matchday seven. Hertha BSC grabbed a late equaliser to make it 1-1. Alex Meier had given the Eagles the lead but Vladimir Darida snatched a point for the visitors late on. The Berlin side are sixth with 11 points, Frankfurt have two points fewer and are 10th.

Meier, who topped the Bundesliga scoring charts last season, gave his side the lead in front of 46,000 at the Commerzbank Arena. The 32-year-old scored in the 22nd minute. Marc Stendera’s corner wasn’t cleared properly and the striker pounced to fire home from close range. It was his fourth goal of the campaign.

Ibisevic and Stendera hit the woodwork

The visitors could have been in front at this stage of the match but Vedad Ibisevic’s close range effort was expertly kept out by Lukas Hradecky (14’) and just 60 seconds later his header smacked the frame of the goal. Stendera could have doubled the Eintracht lead shortly before the break but his shot hit the bar (42’).

Hertha grabbed their equaliser shortly before the end. Darida found himself in plenty of space inside the box and he fired past Hradecky with just eight minutes to play.
