Football fairy tales: First place Leicester and Huth against Schweinsteiger

Surprise package Leicester City face Manchester United on Saturday (18:30 CET). 19-time national player Robert Huth is planning Leicester’s next surprise this weekend as they face Lousi van Gaal, Wayne Rooney and Die Mannschaft captain Schweinsteiger.

"You have to pinch yourself when you look at it. First playing second, and we’re not second. That’s crazy," said Leicester’s Christian Fuchs. Heroic defender Huth has played every single minute for his team this season and plays centre back alongside captain Wes Morgan. The defender from Berlin has the most experience in his team, as nobody has played more Premier League games than him.

Jamie Vardy top Leicester goalscorer

The focus, somewhat surprisingly, this weekend is not on any Manchester United player, but Premier League and Leicester top goalscorer Jamie Vardy. The striker has scored at least one goal in his last ten games, and has equaled the record of Ruud van Nistelrooy. To score would be to break that record, becoming the first ever player to score in eleven straight games in the Premier League. A message from van Nistelrooy read: "Records are there to be broken. If he does [score], I’ll be delighted for him." Vardy seems to be scoring for fun at the moment, and has guided his team to the top of the table.

The Foxes formerly a mid-table club

Up until now, Leicester have been a standard Premier League club, nearly getting relegated last season, and also being treated as relegation candidates before the beginning of this season. Ranieri, who has previously managed Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan is not feeling the pressure ahead of the game against Manchester United. "The match is just another opportunity for us to see how we can improve," said the 64-year-old.

In the coming weeks we will see what the Foxes can achieve as they face Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool and Manchester. The high-flying Leicester will show whether if they can cope being top through these fixtures, and it will be more clear as to whether Gordon Banks’ and Gary Lineker’s former club can carry on with their title challenge.
