Flick and Rueda: Meeting of the masterminds

During the 2014 World Cup in Brazil they were opponents, albeit indirectly, and now they’re linked by their curiosity. How can football develop, how can you promote development and what works where? As part of the international friendly between Germany and Australia, DFB sporting director Hansi Flick met with Reinaldo Rueda to exchange ideas.

The Colombian managed Ecuador during the last World Cup and took charge of Honduras during the 2010 edition of the tournament. His most successful spell came in charge of Colombia’s youth teams – in 2003 he guided the U20 side to third place in the World Cup, which was held in the United Arab Emirates.

“It’s always good to meet with managers and directors from across the world and from different cultures,” said Flick. “Exchanging ideas is fantastic for both parties. Ideas develop best through dialogue between intelligent individuals. Consequently, I was delighted to have the opportunity to attend this meeting in Kaiserslautern.”
